The Toxicity of Social Media

Image
In a time where social media is at the tip of our fingers. A culture that has been groomed to broadcast their successes, dreams, and experiences; we are given a glimpse into the lives of our peers.  So easily scrolling through someone meeting their favorite celebrity, reaching the finish line(race, cancer, graduation,) achieving a dream(music, acting, modeling.) As friends we share in each others achievements and grieve in their setbacks. We are the first to wish a congratulations, liking a photo, sharing a post. We respond, "That is incredible." Supporting them as a good friend should.  What we don't realize is that while we are seeing our friends broadcast their lives, we don't know the full story. We don't understand what went into those achievements, and sometimes we gain resentment for them. We don't know what people go through in their walk of life. We can't take everything posted on Facebook as their complete success. Perception is everyt...

An Older Man Ran Faster Than Me

Image
The other day I went running outside. I ran a major highway I live right next to. I started strong, running down the hill at full speed. My tunes blasting in my ear. Grooving to the beat, and I was happy with myself. I then reached my local Kroger and decided it was time to turn around and head back. I was walking to cool down from the first leg of my journey. I then convinced myself at a certain point I would begin running again. I finally reached that point and Wrecking Ball came across my Google player. I remember thinking I am going to run this race. I started gaining speed when all of a sudden from out of no where, this older gentleman came running past me. I thought what the heck, this should not be happening. I am younger and I should be able run faster than him. So I start trying to race this man, thinking I have something to prove. I then, started increasing my speed. Thinking I am going to beat this man. When I started thinking that this often applies to life. We run at...

Home is Where the Heart is

Image
Since I was a young kid I use to hear "Home is where the Heart is." I remember at the time not knowing what that meant, and struggling with the concept. My whole life I have dreamed of making something of myself. As a child I wanted to be on Kenan and Kel, and that was all I use to talk about. My Grandma Carol would ask me what I wanted to be when I grew up and all I would say is that I want to be an actor. I want to move to L.A. and be on a show like Kenan and Kel! I dreamed with my whole heart and thought someday I would go and do what they were doing. I wanted to make people laugh because I enjoy laughing so much. As I grew older I became to see the dream as almost unreachable. I thought that those dreams were only given to the few who were lucky. Growing up in a normal family, those things just did not happen to normal families. Time went on and I still was not able to shake what I felt I was called to do, I started longing to move to L.A. I remember making plans w...

It's Chill-Lancifer-Featured for Music Monday

Image
Lanicfer's 2012's It's Chill-EP Cover. Welcome to an ALL NEW #MusicMonday! This week we are bringing you so much more!! Last week I was on youtube and I was listening to some music that I was familiar with and I really enjoyed. I came across an artist that I had never heard of and was completely in awe of his music. So I found him on twitter and started following him along with sending him some tweets. He responded and granted to me an interview. I am honored to feature Lancifer's, "It's Chill" this week on #MusicMonday. Lancifer is a refreshing new sound in the world. Bringing a hip hop/rap flavor. In his music video for It's Chill, he brings Meekakitty. Together they are a driving force to be reckoned with, providing amazing dance moves and inspiring lyrics to the song. One of my favorite things about Lancifer is that he is a Christian and he is not shy about his faith. It plays such a huge role in his life and music. I hope that you will tak...
