Be My Girl- John and Jacob- Featured #MusicMonday
It is my true pleasure to bring all of you my #MusicMonday feature today, not only do I have an amazing interview. I get to debut this brand new layout for chrisburkmenn.com. So excited for the new look as well as all the things instore. Enough of that, getting back to todays feature.
Nashville is a town full of talent, and hopefuls wanting to make it big. It's where dreams are born and also crushed. Today I am bringing to you a band that has proven that dreams do come true in this city. With a lot of hard work and for them the ride is just beginning to get crazy. With John&Jacob's schedule booking very quickly they still were able to take time and allow me the opportunity to interview them. I ran across their material on Lightning 100 a radio station here in Nashville and instantly fell in love with their song "Be My Girl." The song is so different to what we normally hear on the radio, and I knew when I heard it that this duo was going somewhere. When I spoke with the I was surprised to learn that they had another connection with a very popular band at the moment(to find out keep reading until the interview.) The duo had their first major award nomination back in June at the Online Music Awards(MTV,VH1, and CMT.) They also have booked a major appearance, John&Jacob will be featured on CMT's Listen Up! in the coming months be sure to look out for that amazing show!
My interview with the John&Jacob:
CB: Where do you get your influences musically especially for the concept of Be My Girl?
J&J: We listen to everything! Some of our biggest influences musically are The Beatles, Beach House, Blitzen Trapper, and ELO to name a few. Basically, we try to keep our music simple and play what needs to be there and that's it. The same goes for how we record. Be My Girl was written pretty much the same way it is played now. We love good grooves and melody and luckily, the song represents both for us.
CB: Now I was reading your biography and it said you played churches in beginning of the band? How does your Faith effect your music?
J&J: We keep our show and music pretty family friendly. The fact the our moms will still whip us helps keep us in line. We have strong values and were raised in churches so that still carries on in our day to day lives and will hear some of it in our music.
CB: Have you ever been asked to compromise your values in order to become a hit, and how did you respond?
J&J: So far everyone that we've come into contact with has been respectful of our values. Hopefully, that will never happen. If it does, I'm confident that we will respond with our values in mind and not sell ourselves out. We will find a way to get things done our own way without compromising.
CB: Describe what it's felt like being nominated for an Online Music Award?
J&J: It was a real honor being nominated for an OMA. We were in the company of some great talent and just feel blessed to be recognized.
CB: What is next for you? What is coming down the pike? (Tour, New Music, Music video, etc) Anything you can hint or tell the readers?
J&J: We plan on getting in the studio in early July to continue recording. Following that we plan on doing a fall tour and just trying to get as much exposure as possible. We will continue to write and record in between everything that we do. We are just trying to keep the momentum going.
CB: How has this past year been for you since you are entering into a new season in your artistry?
J&J: This past year has been wonderful for us. We got our first major cut with "DONE." by The Band Perry, which we co-wrote with Neil and Reid Perry. TBP has really been great to us! We also have gotten a lot of our team in place. We feel lucky to be working with the people that we are working with. Lightning 100 has also been really good to us and has given us good radio airplay, which we're so thankful for. We just hope that things will continue the way they are going. We feel very blessed.

Lyrics
Be My Girl
Verse 1
I know it’s wrong but I want ya
Even if you can’t tell
By the way that you’re looking
I know you want me as well
And before the night’s over
We’re both going to give in
So come a little bit closer
Where you and I can begin
Chorus
So let’s
Move fast
Groove slow
Doesn’t matter where
Baby let’s go
Move fast
Groove slow
Don’t ya wanna be my girl
Verse 2
You twirl your hair with your finger
Girl I know what that means
I see you there in the corner
You should be dancin’ with me
And before the night’s over
We’re both going to give in
So come a little bit closer
Where you and I can begin
Chorus
So let’s
Move fast
Groove slow
Doesn’t matter where
Baby let’s go
Move fast
Groove slow
Don’t ya wanna be my girl
