2 Become 1
Driving
point to this post is that Purity paves the way to intimacy.
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone.
I will make a helper who is just right for him.” So the Lord God formed
from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought
them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for
each one. He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky,
and all the wild animals. But still there was no helper just right for him. So
the Lord God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the
Lord God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening. Then
the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At
last!” the man exclaimed.
“This one is bone from my bone,
and flesh from my flesh!
She will be called ‘woman,’
because she was taken from ‘man.’” This explains why a man
leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united
into one. Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.
(Genesis 2:18-25 NLT)
Why do you think that the animals were not a suitable helper for
man?
Now how many of us noticed it is written that, But still there was no helper
suitable for him.
Although both Adam and
animals were created from the ground no suitable helper for Adam was found
among the animals. It was impressed upon Adam that in every case there were two
animals—a male and a female. He was the only creature without a counterpart.
Although all things were created good, it was not good for Adam to be alone. A
need for a companion was created in Adam.
So as we see here God
never intended for us to be alone he has a mate for us.
It was obvious to Adam
that the animals came in pairs and he had no mate. Since God deliberately had
Adam name the animals after seeing his need for a partner, God used this to
prepare Adam to receive the gift of woman.
Helper as an Equal
Eve was created not only
as a helper to Adam but also as an equal. It is not a belittling term for it is
often used in the Bible to describe God Himself. Eve had the same nature as
Adam and was created to complement him. Each of them made up for that which the
other lacked.
They were united into One:
As has been often stated, woman was not made from
man's head for him to lord over her, neither was she made from the feet of man
so that he could trample over her. She was made from his side so they could
share their life experiences together. The couple was one unit.
RIB: Then
the Lord God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man. “At
last!” the man exclaimed.“This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my
flesh!
The King James
Version says that Adam's rib was used in the creation of Eve. It
is used more than thirty times in the Old Testament and is only translated rib
in this passage. It refers to the side of Adam. In the Sumerian language, one
of the most ancient known to humanity, the word for rib also means life. In
this context it is clear that the woman was created from the life of the man.
The First Marriage:
Why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his
wife, and the two are united into one
Monogamy- Why is it important that we only have one companion?
Monogamy means to be married to one
person.
In
today’s society it is portrayed as being ok to be in multiple relationships
when it is convenient for the other person, it is glamorized. But that is not
what God had intended.
From the beginning, God
instilled the practice of monogamy—one man would be with one woman. Jesus
emphasized that this was God's original purpose in creation.
And He answered and said
to them, Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning 'made them
male and female,' and said, 'For this reason a man shall leave his father and
mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So then,
they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together,
let not man separate (Matthew 19:4-6).
One
Flesh:
In that scripture we hear and They shall become one
flesh or united,
What do you think of when you hear this? SEX
but One flesh is so much more than just sex. Sex of
course plays a part.
Though an initial bond in a one flesh
relationship can be formed at the first sexual relationship a couple has, the
fullness of what God wants to do in the one flesh relationship takes time. But I really want you all to get this
before anything else, It has to become. It has to become, before anything the uniting of two people has to
BECOME ONE!
Now who can tell me what it means to
BECOME something?
That takes time, and above all unity, and marriage is a union.
The word Become means to grow to be.
So in
all things before Sex, it has to become.
Purity, They were naked and not
ashamed.
The idea of “nakedness” is far more
than mere nudity. It has the sense of being totally open and exposed as a
person before God and man. To be naked . . . and not ashamed means you have no sin, nothing to be rightly ashamed of, nothing
to hide.
Often times we want to impress the
opposite sex, by dressing nice, getting a nice haircut, girls your makeup, but
when Adam and Eve were naked and not ashamed none of these things mattered.
Because these feelings did not exist.
That is why Purity paves the way for
intimacy in a relationship.
What I want you to take away from all
of this is that to become one flesh it takes time. It does not just happen in
dating you have to BECOME ONE in several ways. It is a union that two people
make and that is why it is called marriage because you are becoming one.
